I decided to start my Critical Reflective Journal with a short post to set out my goals and objectives for the MA, Indie Game Development programme I am beginning this week.
To understand the theory and practice of making great games.
To gain a better understanding of what makes successful games.
To develop enough independent development skills to make a game and understand how it works.
To begin to build a portfolio of industry work.
To develop an academic voice.
These goals may change over time, but they are the core reasons I joined the programme: to learn to make games and to develop myself professionally and academically. They are my motivators and the visualisation of where I see myself at the end of the programme.
It is my intention to reflect on my learning and skills throughout the course in the context of these goals. Firstly, to ensure i’m focussing on activities that support them. Secondly, to remind myself of why I am here when I am facing difficulties that require grit and determination to overcome.
I look forward to the challenges of the next two years with excitement and anxiety in equal measure!
